Public Philosophy Program

The American Philosophical Association recognizes “public philosophy” as a way for philosophers to use their training in the context of public discourse on a wide range of social issues affecting today’s world. Among other things public philosophy is charged to “make common cause with ethics institutes and other organizations in promoting the engagement of philosophy with broader publics.” Click here for a full description at the APA web site: PUBLIC PHILOSOPHY. This undergraduate internship is designed to allow the interested student to explore the interface of philosophy and policy-making. The Pacific Institute has an established public presence in areas such as healthcare policy, genetics, immigration, and social questions raised by current national security policies.
