Ethics & Policy Internship in Physician Assistant Studies
Apply now for academic year 2008-2009
This is an internship for the pre-professional arts and science student planning to work within the health care system as a Physician Assistant. The student will assist the Pacific Institute in the development and implementation of its ethics and policy program within College of Health Profession’s Physician Assistant Studies. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to understand the “big picture” of their chosen profession. How does the physician assistant relate to other health care professions? What are the current policy issues confronting the profession? How do the ethical standards within the physician assistant profession work themselves out in practice? This is a great opportunity to show admissions committees that the student has an interest in, and a good grasp of, the profession as a whole. This internship will involve some or all of the following: research for curriculum development, research for funding opportunities, development and maintenance of a database of regional resources, maintenance of online resources for physician assistant students and professionals, attendance at program planning meetings as well as assistance in implementing continuing education and graduate seminars in ethics & policy.
Available as a 2,3 or 4 credit hour internship spread over the academic year (Ideal is 2 cr/hr per term). Schedule is flexible. Approximate hours per week - 5 hours per semester cr/hr (i.e. 10 hrs/wk using the ideal scenario of 2 cr/hr's per term.) Requirements: Sophomore standing.
